When you borrow from the E-Bike Lending Library, you can also request to borrow bike helmets for you AND your children – for free! Massachusetts state law requires bike helmets to be worn by children age 16 and younger.
Before your scheduled e-bike pickup, contact your librarian and tell us your child’s head size, using the READY Kids’ Bike Helmet sizes by Woom as shown below:
- Extra Small (XS) 46–50 cm OR 18.2–19.6 inches
- Small (S) 50–53 cm OR 19.7–20.8 inches
- Medium (M) 53-57 cm OR 20.9–22 inches
We also have some adult-sized bike helmets to lend, and you can try them on to find the best fit during your pickup.
When you and your children wear your bike helmets, follow the “two finger” rule to adjust the straps and fit them snugly on your heads, as shown in the PBS Helmet Sizing Guide image below.
